Turning Insert
On small format machines, where mainly finishing cuts are applied, it is advisable to select the smallest possible corner radius. This helps to reduce vibration and therefore gives the best chance of obtaining excellent surface finishes at higher speeds. However, where rough or intermittent cuts are to be taken, remember that a bigger radius gives a stronger corner. Coupled with slower speeds, this is often the best solution.
Our general purpose TiN coated insert (NJ17) is designed to cut most materials, including steels, stainless steels, brass, bronze, aluminium and cast iron. If you intend to machine only aluminium, copper and other soft, non-ferrous materials, then choose our Aluminium type insert. It has a polished top face, coupled with high top rake and very sharp edges to give improved surface finish and tool-life, whilst improving the resistance to built up edge. (Also works very well on plastics and wood.)
